Yesterday was essentially a day of driving from Nuwara Eliya to Yala - from the hill country to the south coast. It also happened to be a Poya day - a holiday associated with the full moon and during which the sale of alcohol, meat and fish is banned..
So here are some photos:
Reception in the Grand hotel
If you fancy moving to Nuwara Eliya here is an opportunity. Tourism is growing and there is a whole hillside of new hotels under construction.
Colonial mansion
Clean and green Sri Lanka.
Snow White and the seven Dwarves near Lake Gregory, Nuwara Eliya.
Fertile vegetable growing around Nuwara Eliya.
Hindu temple to Hanuman
Family on a motorbike but unfortunately I had not wound down the window fully.
Precariously perched hotel.
Ravana Falls near Ella.
Bathing in the Ravana Falls.
Large lizard risking life on the road
Our lunch stop for jack fruit curry and Roti
Making the delicious roti (40 rupees) about 30 cents Australian
Next roadside stop for fresh lime juice.
And here we are enjoying our lime juice.
Lime juice stall
Beach at Yala.
Fresh lime juice sounds quite refreshing in the tropics. The "Little England Cottages" on the other hand, don't seem suited to the tropics at all.
ReplyDeleteYour driver is doing a good job. Taking you to where the locals eat and finding lots of interesting sights.
ReplyDeleteSpending time among the locals is the best way to see a country. I saw a family while away, Mum, Dad and 4 little toddlers on a motorbike, bit scary thankfully the maximum speed allowed was 15kmphr.
